Jace Doenz and Trey Blackmer from Erle River High School were in the top ranks for the 2010 Caring for Water Shed (CFW) final.

Jace and Trey’s idea is to get a remote watering trough for cattle that are powered by a solar panel pump so that the animals stay away from the banks of the river to reduce pollution and also allow the riparian area to thrive.

A healthy riparian area is important as it reduces erosion, keeps animal habitats intact, and filters water that ends up in the Milk River.

A solar watering system was purchased and is being rigged to be placed at a producer’s ranch.
