Sustainable Development Goals

As part of the United Nations 2030 Agenda the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are an urgent call for action for everyone in the world. The goals provide a strategic plan for peace and prosperity for people and the planet, now and into the future

How does Caring for Our Watersheds (CFW) contribute to the SDGs and incorporate the SDGs into student projects?

CFW contributes to many of the SDGs through the diverse environmental solutions that students implement in their communities and beyond.

Each SDG includes specific targets that outline how the goal will be achieved. Judges will evaluate student proposals and presentations to ensure relevant SDGs are addressed, awarding additional points for projects that identify specific targets and demonstrate how the local project contributes to global progress.

Resources below explain the difference between a goal and a target, with additional tools to support students in incorporating SDG terminology and context into their proposals and presentations. Contact your Program Coordinator for additional support.

Goal Target Indicator
A Sustainable Development Goal is the overall objective we are trying to achieve to become more sustainable. A target is a specific, measurable task we need to complete by a specific year to ensure we are making progress with the overall goal. An indicator is how we’re measuring our progress to determine if we’re meeting the target.
What are we trying to achieve? How do we achieve our goal? How do we measure our progress?
